Shape Typing is a space arcade shooter in which the keyboard is the gun. Its own tagline, type to shoot, save the galaxy, is an accurate description: enemy ships descend toward your fighter, each one labelled with a word, and typing that word fires on it. Nothing else moves your ship or aims it, so your words-per-minute is your damage output and your accuracy is your hit rate. It is structured in sectors rather than endless waves. Each sector sends a fixed number of enemies, a stability bar tracks how the sector is holding up, and you have a small shield allowance that depletes when an enemy gets past you, so the run ends when you have been too slow too often. Around that sit a hangar of unlockable jets and a level select for replaying sectors you have already cleared. Of the action-typing games here it is the most game-like, in the sense that there is progression to chase beyond your own score.
How to play Shape Typing
- Read the word printed on each descending enemy ship.
- Type the word to fire on that enemy and destroy it.
- Clear all of the enemies in a sector to advance.
- Watch your shields: each enemy that gets past you costs one.
- Unlock new jets in the hangar and replay earlier sectors from the level select.
Controls
- Desktop: A physical keyboard. Typing a word targets and fires on the enemy carrying it.
- Mobile / tablet: A keyboard is required, so play on a desktop or laptop.
Shape Typing tips & strategy
- Target the lowest enemy on screen, not the shortest word. Shields are lost to proximity, not to word length.
- Finish a word once you start it. Abandoning halfway wastes the keystrokes you already spent.
- Short words are your emergency tool. When two enemies are close, clear the short one instantly and then deal with the long one.
- Sectors are replayable from level select, so use cleared ones to practise rather than burning shields on new sectors.

Shape Typing FAQ
How do you control Shape Typing?
Entirely with the keyboard. Each enemy ship carries a word, and typing that word fires on it. There is no aiming or movement control.
What happens when an enemy reaches me?
You lose a shield. The run ends when your shields are gone, so slow typing is the only real failure condition.
Is there progression?
Yes. It is structured into sectors, with a hangar of unlockable jets and a level select that lets you replay sectors you have already cleared.
Can I play it on a phone?
Not meaningfully. It needs a physical keyboard, so use a desktop or laptop.
