About Mekorama

Mekorama is a serene 3D puzzle game by Swedish indie developer Martin Magni, first released for iOS and Android in 2016. You help B, a tiny stranded robot, stumble home through a series of intricate mechanical dioramas — small boxed worlds you can freely rotate in your hand. Each level is a self-contained sculpture of ramps, ladders, spinning gears, sliding blocks and rail-riding motors, and progress depends less on reflexes than on perspective: turning the diorama reveals a path that was hidden a moment before. You tap a destination and the robot walks there, but many puzzles also require dragging, rotating or riding moving parts to bridge gaps, and some feature red robots to avoid or outmaneuver. The game ships with dozens of hand-built levels, a built-in editor, and thousands of shareable community levels via scannable "Mekorama cards." It is famously "pay what you want."

How to play Mekorama

  1. Tap or click a spot to send B, the little robot, walking there along any connected path.
  2. Rotate the whole diorama by dragging (or click-dragging) to see it from every angle — hidden routes are the heart of the game.
  3. Drag, spin or ride the movable parts: sliding blocks, rotating wheels, and rail-mounted motors that carry B across gaps.
  4. Reach the level's goal to complete the diorama; there is no timer and no failure state, so experiment freely.
  5. Watch for red robots and dead-ends — some levels ask you to avoid hazards or trigger mechanisms in the right order.
  6. Use the built-in editor to build your own dioramas and share them as scannable Mekorama cards.

Controls

  • Desktop: Click a tile to move the robot there; click-drag empty space to rotate the diorama; scroll to zoom; click and drag movable blocks, wheels and motors to slide or spin them.
  • Mobile / tablet: Tap a tile to move the robot; swipe/drag to rotate the world; pinch to zoom; drag movable parts to slide or rotate them.

Mekorama tips & strategy

  • Rotate before you tap. Most 'impossible' levels open up the moment you spin the diorama and spot a path that lines up from a new angle.
  • Tap a far tile to test reach — if the robot refuses or you see a red X, that route isn't connected yet and something must be moved first.
  • Identify the moving pieces early. Gears, sliding blocks and rail motors are usually the key; figure out what each one does before planning a route.
  • Turn on free camera in the settings so you can rotate smoothly instead of snapping in 90-degree steps — it makes tucked-away sections far easier to read.
  • When fully stuck, slowly circle the whole model and look for pieces that seem oddly aligned or out of place; that mismatch is often the hint that a part needs to slide or turn.
  • There's no penalty for experimenting — nudge parts and re-route the robot freely, since levels can't be failed.

What makes Mekorama fun

Free-roaming 3D dioramas you rotate like objects in your hand; a gentle, no-timer, no-fail puzzle flow built around perspective and lateral thinking; charming low-poly voxel art with a tiny robot named B; mechanical elements like spinning gears, sliding blocks and rail-riding motors, plus red-robot hazards on later levels; a full built-in level editor; and a huge library of community-made levels shared as scannable "Mekorama cards." Originally a mobile release with a famous "pay what you want" model, later ported to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox.

Mekorama gameplay video

In this clip: This clip shows one small diorama in Mekorama, a house with a grey roof on a block of grass, tiles and blue water, seen from four different angles. On-screen hints read "Tap to move" and later "Find hidden stars", and the small robot is shown first on a lower level behind the water, then in the house's doorway, and in the last frame on the grass beside the house.

Mekorama FAQ

Who made Mekorama?

Mekorama was created by Swedish independent developer Martin Magni, who handled the design, programming, art and music himself. He also made Fancade and Drive Mad. Rainy Frog later published the console ports.

Is Mekorama free to play?

The original mobile game uses a 'pay what you want' model, so it can be downloaded and played for free with optional payment. Console versions (Switch, PlayStation, Xbox) are paid. Browser-hosted versions on game portals are typically free.

How many levels does Mekorama have?

The original release ships with roughly 50 hand-built diorama puzzles, and later and console versions expanded that count. On top of the built-in levels, a level editor and thousands of shareable community-made levels give it near-endless content.

Can I make and share my own levels?

Yes. Mekorama includes a built-in level editor, and finished creations can be shared as scannable 'Mekorama cards' (QR-style codes), so players can trade custom dioramas with each other.

Can Mekorama be played in a web browser?

Mekorama began as a mobile game and is also playable via various browser game portals. Note that many browser-hosted versions are third-party re-hosts rather than the developer's official app.
