Mahjong Deluxe is a mahjong solitaire game, which is to say it is not the four-player game that the word mahjong refers to in most of the world. There are no winds, no dragons, no melds and no opponents. Instead you get a stack of tiles arranged into a layout, and you clear it by removing matching pairs, where a tile is only available if it is not covered and has a free edge on the left or the right. What makes this version worth its place is that the layouts are generated rather than fixed, so the board is different every time and you cannot memorise your way through it. Difficulty settings sit on top of that, controlling how deeply the stacks interlock and therefore how early you can trap yourself. Because every game is new, the natural way to play it is against your own previous time, and that is what the game is built around.
How to play Mahjong Deluxe
- Find two identical tiles that are both free: not covered by another tile, and open on the left or the right edge.
- Click one, then the other, to remove the pair.
- Keep clearing pairs to expose the tiles underneath.
- Work the stacks down evenly so you do not strand a tile under a pile with no matching partner left.
- Remove every tile to finish the layout, then try a fresh one or raise the difficulty.
Controls
- Desktop: Click a tile, then click its match.
- Mobile / tablet: Tap a tile, then tap its match.
Mahjong Deluxe tips & strategy
- When three or four copies of a tile are visible, pair the two that are most buried. Removing the two easy ones can leave the buried pair permanently locked.
- Clear tiles from the top and the ends of long rows first. Those are what free up everything else.
- Because layouts are generated, there is no 'solution' to look up. Play the opening slowly and the endgame fast.
- If you are stuck with free tiles that do not match, the game is already lost; restart rather than hunting. Losing early is cheap here.

Mahjong Deluxe FAQ
Is this the real four-player mahjong?
No. Mahjong Deluxe is mahjong solitaire, a single-player tile-matching puzzle that uses mahjong tiles. It has no opponents, no winds or dragons and no melds.
When is a tile free to remove?
When nothing is stacked on top of it and at least one of its left or right edges is open. Tiles blocked on both sides cannot be taken even if they are uncovered.
Are the layouts always the same?
No, they are generated fresh each game, so you cannot memorise a solution and every board is a new puzzle.
Is Mahjong Deluxe free?
Yes, it plays free in your browser with no download or account.
