See all →About FreelancerSim
FreelancerSim is a life-management game in which typing is the work, which makes it the odd one out on this hub and the only one with a failure state that is not about speed. You play a freelance coder: typing tasks earn money, money buys food and home upgrades, and viruses show up to be fought off. Neglect the food and you restart from scratch, which is a harsher consequence than any typing test imposes and the reason the game reads as risk-reward rather than as practice. The typing itself is a means rather than an end, so this is not where you go to raise your words-per-minute. It is where you go if you like the idea of typing being useful to something, with a progression loop attached to the keystrokes: earn, spend, upgrade, survive. Worth knowing before you start that it is a simulation first and a typing game second, which is the opposite emphasis from everything else on this hub.
How to play FreelancerSim
- Take on typing tasks to earn money as a freelance coder.
- Spend earnings on food to maintain your virtual health.
- Fight off viruses when they interrupt your work.
- Invest spare money in home upgrades that improve your situation.
- Keep the balance between earning and eating, or restart from scratch.
Controls
- Desktop: A physical keyboard for the typing tasks, mouse for managing the simulation.
- Mobile / tablet: A keyboard is needed for the typing tasks, so desktop or laptop is recommended.
FreelancerSim tips & strategy
- Buy food before upgrades, always. Running out resets everything you built, and no upgrade is worth that risk.
- This is a simulation with typing in it, not a typing trainer. If your goal is raw speed, Typing Battle or Speed Typer will serve you better.
- Upgrades compound, so the earliest affordable one usually pays back faster than saving for a bigger one.
- Deal with viruses promptly; leaving them running eats the earnings you need for food.

FreelancerSim FAQ
Is FreelancerSim a typing game?
Partly. Typing tasks are how you earn money, but it is a simulation first: the real game is balancing earnings against food, health and upgrades.
What happens if I run out of money?
If you cannot afford food you restart from scratch, which is why buying food before upgrades is the central discipline of the game.
Will it improve my typing speed?
Not much. The typing is a means to an end here. For actual speed work, the action-typing games on this hub are the better choice.
Is it free to play?
Yes, free in your browser with no download.
