Brain Out is a free tricky-puzzle game built entirely around lateral thinking, where the obvious answer is almost always wrong. Each level poses a short riddle, a math question, a mini-game, or an absurd scenario, and the solution usually depends on breaking a rule the puzzle only pretends to set. You might drag one object on top of another, shake or tilt your phone, count something hidden in the question text, or pull an item clean off the screen. Developed by Focus apps and released in 2019, it grew into one of the most-downloaded brain-teaser titles on mobile before spreading to browser portals. The clean interface hides deliberate misdirection: buttons lie, timers cheat, and instructions leave out the trick. A light-bulb hint system helps when you get stuck. There are no dexterity requirements, just patience, observation, and a willingness to abandon conventional logic.
How to play Brain Out
- Read each question or instruction carefully, then look at the whole screen, the wording and the buttons often hide the real trick.
- Interact directly with objects: tap, drag one item onto another, drag things off the screen, or hold to reveal something.
- On mobile, try physical gestures like shaking, tilting, rotating the device, or using more than one finger at once.
- Ignore the obvious answer, the puzzle usually rewards the response that subverts normal logic.
- Tap the light-bulb icon for a hint if you are stuck; some levels offer more than one hint.
- Solve levels in order to advance; each stage has a single correct solution.
Controls
- Desktop: Mouse only. Left-click to tap or select, click-and-drag to move objects (including dragging items off the edge of the screen), and type numbers or letters when a level asks for input. The mouse pointer stands in for a finger.
- Mobile / tablet: Touch controls. Tap, drag, and long-press objects; pinch or zoom, and use device gestures such as shaking, tilting or rotating the phone, or placing two fingers on the screen when a puzzle calls for it.
Brain Out tips & strategy
- Take the instruction literally, then look for the loophole, Brain Out puzzles are designed to punish the assumption everyone makes first.
- Treat the question text itself as an object: numbers, words and even letters in the prompt can be counted, dragged or tapped.
- When a level seems impossible, experiment physically, drag pieces on top of each other, off-screen, or shake and tilt the device.
- Buttons and UI elements are fair game, the hint bulb, the level counter, and on-screen controls are sometimes part of the answer.
- If you burn through hints, use a reputable walkthrough for that exact level number rather than guessing, since wrong taps can cost a life.
- Note that level numbering shifts between app updates and browser versions, so match the puzzle wording, not just the number.
What makes Brain Out fun
Brain Out offers 200+ hand-crafted single-solution puzzles that each teach a different kind of misdirection: wordplay, hidden objects, trick math, timing mini-games, and physical-gesture challenges. The interface is deliberately clean and minimal so the trick is always hiding in plain sight. A light-bulb hint system, unlimited retries on most stages, and short self-contained levels make it easy to pick up in short sessions. The game evaluates logic, reflexes, memory, observation and creativity rather than reaction speed or skill, and its humor comes from how often the "correct" answer breaks the rules the puzzle appeared to set. It is free to play, supported by ads, and available on Android, iOS and browser game portals.
Brain Out gameplay video
In this clip: This clip shows Brain Out's level 4, titled "Save the Boys": a worried boy sits at a desk with a test paper marked with red crosses while an angry woman stands behind him holding a spoon. In the next frame the cursor is on the paper and only part of it is still visible; after that the paper is gone from the desk, the boy is smiling, the woman is grinning, and a green arrow button appears below the scene.
Brain Out FAQ
Who developed Brain Out?
Brain Out was developed and published by Focus apps (the studio is associated with the corporate entity Eyewind Limited, based in Hong Kong). It first launched on mobile in 2019 and later appeared on browser game portals.
Is Brain Out free to play?
Yes. Brain Out is free and ad-supported. You can play every level without paying, though optional in-app purchases and rewarded ads can remove ads or provide extra hints.
How many levels does Brain Out have?
The game has 200+ levels, and updates have added more over time. The exact count varies by version and platform, and the browser ports may include a different subset than the mobile app.
Why are the answers so weird?
That is the whole point. Brain Out is a lateral-thinking game, so the intended solution deliberately subverts the obvious answer. You are meant to think outside the box, reinterpret the question, or interact with the screen in an unexpected way.
What do the light bulbs do?
The light-bulb icon gives you a hint for the level you are on. Some levels have more than one hint available. Hints are the intended way to get unstuck without spoiling the whole game.
Is this the same as Brain Test?
No. Brain Out (by Focus apps) and Brain Test: Tricky Puzzles (by Unico Studio) are two different games in the same tricky-puzzle genre. They share a style but have different levels, developers and answers.
