Solar Smash is a planet destruction simulator from independent studio Paradyme Games, first released for Android and iOS in January 2020 and now widely playable in the browser. It is a sandbox rather than a goal-driven game: you pick a planet, choose from a deep arsenal of weapons, and watch voxel-based worlds crack, melt, and shatter in real time. Fire nuclear missiles, carve continents with adjustable lasers, hurl asteroids, summon black holes, or unleash giant monsters, alien fleets, and celestial beings. The Planet Smash mode focuses on a single world, while System Smash lets you fling whole planets and stars into collisions. Layered planet interiors and a simulated surface population make every strike feel satisfyingly destructive. With customizable weapons, hidden planets, and multiple star systems to explore, Solar Smash has drawn well over 100 million players worldwide, making it one of the most popular destruction sandboxes on mobile.
How to play Solar Smash
- Pick a target planet from the selector, then open the weapon panel along the side of the screen.
- Tap or click a weapon icon to select it, then tap directly on the planet to fire; some weapons let you click-and-drag to aim beams or set an impact path.
- Rotate the view by dragging empty space, and pinch or scroll to zoom in and out for better firing angles.
- Open the settings cog that appears for many weapons to adjust size, speed, color, and damage radius before firing.
- Switch to System Smash to drag entire planets and the Sun around, then slingshot them into one another for chain collisions.
- Keep experimenting and completing achievements to unlock secret planets, extra star systems, and bonus weapons.
Controls
- Desktop: Mouse: click a weapon to select it, then click or click-and-drag on the planet to fire and aim. Drag empty space to rotate the planet, scroll wheel to zoom, and click the on-screen cog to open weapon settings.
- Mobile / tablet: Tap a weapon icon, then tap the planet to fire. Drag to rotate the view and pinch to zoom; tap-and-drag for laser or aimed weapons, and tap the cog icon to customize a weapon's size, speed, and color.
Solar Smash tips & strategy
- Aim for the planet's core: drilling straight through the center with a laser or the Celestial Being destroys a world far faster than scattered surface hits.
- Target bright, densely populated regions on the night side to rack up the highest simulated casualty counts for achievements.
- In System Smash, a well-placed black hole or a swarm of asteroids can chain-collide several planets at once.
- Open the weapon cog and crank up laser width or meteor size and speed before firing for maximum area damage.
- Combine weapons: soften a planet with nukes or asteroids first, then split the weakened crust with a laser.
- Explore every star system and finish achievements to unlock hidden planets and additional weapons.
What makes Solar Smash fun
Solar Smash pairs an enormous weapon roster with a physics-driven, voxel destruction engine. Two core modes anchor it: Planet Smash for focused single-world carnage and System Smash for solar-system-scale collisions where you drag and slingshot planets and stars into each other. Multiple star systems (including Sol, Alpha Centauri, TRAPPIST-1, and a hidden Unknown system) and secret unlockable planets reward exploration. Weapons range from nukes, lasers, and asteroids to black holes, alien ships, giant monsters, and celestial beings, most of them tunable through an in-game settings menu. A companion 2D version and the Steam sequel Solar Smash: Annihilation extend the concept further. It is free to play with no goals, timers, or fail states, just open-ended cosmic destruction.

Solar Smash FAQ
Who made Solar Smash?
Solar Smash was developed and published by Paradyme Games, an independent studio. It first launched on Android and iOS in January 2020 and later appeared in browsers and on Steam.
Is Solar Smash free to play?
Yes. Solar Smash is free on mobile app stores and through browser portals, supported by optional ads and in-app purchases. Browser versions let you play instantly without downloading.
Does Solar Smash have levels or an ending?
No. It is an open-ended sandbox with no levels, no score to beat, and no ending. You destroy planets at your own pace, and achievements are the closest thing to goals, unlocking extra content.
How do you unlock secret planets in Solar Smash?
Secret and hidden planets are unlocked by completing in-game achievements and by exploring the different star systems, including the hidden Unknown system.
What is the difference between Planet Smash and System Smash?
Planet Smash points all your weapons at a single world, while System Smash zooms out to an entire solar system so you can drag, slingshot, and collide multiple planets and the Sun.
What is the fastest way to destroy a planet?
Hitting the core with a powerful laser or the Celestial Being works fastest, as does combining asteroids and nukes to weaken the crust before splitting it with a laser.
