About Hills of Steel

Hills of Steel is a physics-based tank combat game where you roll across rugged, rolling terrain and blast rival tanks apart. First released in 2017 by Finnish studio Superplus Games, it became a mobile hit before arriving as a browser-playable H5 version. You command a single armored vehicle from a 2D side view: the turret aims automatically toward the nearest enemy, while gravity and the shape of each hill decide whether your shots land or your tank tips over. Fire to destroy incoming waves of enemy tanks, deploy special abilities like mines and rocket air-strikes, and repair your hull before it is scrapped. Coins earned in battle unlock and upgrade a growing roster of quirky tanks and mechs, each with distinct weapons, armor and speed. Fast rounds, bouncy physics and escalating difficulty make it easy to pick up and hard to put down.

How to play Hills of Steel

1. Drive your tank left and right across the hills using A/D or the arrow keys (on-screen buttons on mobile).
2. Your turret auto-aims at the nearest enemy — press Spacebar or the fire button to shoot.
3. Use the terrain: crest a hill for a high-ground firing angle, then tuck behind it to dodge incoming shells.
4. Trigger special abilities such as mines or rocket air-strikes when enemies bunch up.
5. Repair your tank (B key) when health runs low, but stay aware that you are vulnerable while patching up.
6. Survive the waves and collect coins, then unlock and upgrade new tanks between runs.

Controls

• Desktop: A / D or Left / Right arrow keys to drive; Spacebar to fire (turret auto-aims at the nearest enemy); B to repair.
• Mobile / tablet: Tap and hold the on-screen left/right buttons to drive and the fire button to shoot; on-screen buttons also trigger repairs and special abilities.

Hills of Steel tips & strategy

• Momentum matters: rocking back and forth on a slope tilts your barrel — use it to reach enemies above or below you.
• Fight from the top of a hill so you can roll back behind it the instant an enemy shell is incoming.
• Do not spend the whole match repairing; retreat, patch up, then re-engage rather than trading hits at close range.
• Save mines and air-strike abilities for clustered enemies or boss fights to get the most value from them.
• Reinvest coins into upgrading one or two favorite tanks rather than spreading upgrades thin across the whole roster.
• Learn each tank's weapon arc — lobbing artillery, straight cannons and flamethrowers all need different positioning.
