Tomb Runner is a free browser-based endless runner cut from the same cloth as Temple Run, first released around 2016 as an HTML5/WebGL game. You play a treasure hunter — Professor Jones by default — sprinting out of a crumbling ancient tomb after snatching a relic. Your character runs forward automatically; your only job is to survive. Swipe or tap the arrow keys to leap chasms, slide under traps and swing left or right around sharp corners while dodging logs, fire-spouts and bottomless pits. Coins and diamonds scattered along the route bank toward unlocking new runners such as Lara Bones, the Mummy and Agent 99, while pickups like shields, coin magnets and 2x multipliers stretch each run further. There are no numbered levels: the ruins regenerate endlessly and the pace keeps climbing the longer you last, so a run ends only when you finally crash.
How to play Tomb Runner
- Your explorer runs forward through the tomb automatically — you only steer and react, never accelerate.
- Press Left/Right (or swipe sideways) to switch between the three lanes and to bank around sharp corners before you run off the edge.
- Press Up (swipe up) to jump gaps and low obstacles; press Down (swipe down) to slide under overhead traps and beams.
- Collect coins and diamonds along the path, and grab power-ups — shield, magnet and 2x multiplier — as they appear.
- Spend your banked coins and diamonds in the menu to unlock new runner characters like Lara Bones, the Mummy and Agent 99.
- Survive as long as you can: the course never ends and steadily speeds up, so your distance is your score.
Controls
- Desktop: Arrow keys — Up = jump, Down = slide, Left/Right = switch lane and turn at corners. You can alternatively left-click and drag the mouse in the direction you want to move.
- Mobile / tablet: Swipe up to jump, swipe down to slide, and swipe left or right to change lanes and take corners.
Tomb Runner tips & strategy
- Turn early: start your left/right input the moment a corner appears rather than when you reach it — late turns send you straight off the edge.
- Watch the track ahead, not your character; reading obstacles as they scroll into view buys the split-second you need once the speed ramps up.
- Put survival ahead of greed — never dive into a hazardous lane just to grab a string of coins.
- Grab the magnet whenever it shows up; it vacuums in nearby coins so you can hold the safest lane and still bank currency.
- Use the shield to barge through a cluttered stretch, not on open track — it only absorbs one hit, so spend that window where it counts.
- Save diamonds for the premium runners (Disco Dancer, Cubeman) and spend common coins on the cheaper early unlocks like Lara Bones and the Mummy.
What makes Tomb Runner fun
Endless, procedurally regenerating course that steadily speeds up; three-lane dodging with jump and slide moves; six unlockable runners (Professor Jones, Lara Bones, Mummy, Agent 99, Disco Dancer, Cubeman); dual coin-and-diamond currency for unlocks; three power-ups (shield, coin magnet, 2x multiplier); built in HTML5/WebGL and playable instantly on desktop and mobile browsers with no download.
Tomb Runner gameplay video
In this clip: An explorer in a cowboy hat runs through mossy stone ruins, starting on a round stone platform with both counters at 0. Later frames show a swipe-down hand prompt in front of a low stone arch, a stone bridge over turquoise water with a line of gold-framed diamond pickups, and a path between arching vines, with the counters reaching 154 and 57.
