Monster Dash is a 3D runner played from a camera behind the character. The opening screen is headed "Pick Your Starter" and shows a three-by-three grid of nine character models: a frog-headed figure, a watermelon creature, a flying saucer with bare feet, a banana peel, a ballerina doll, a finned shark, a monkey, a brown gorilla and a black gorilla. One row of three is framed in yellow, and those same three are repeated in a tray directly below the grid, above a green "Replace" button marked with a video icon and a green "Start Game" button. Play moves to a lane running through a low-poly waterfront city. A lightning-bolt counter reading 24 sits in the top-left, a "Level 1" header sits over a progress bar reading 0/10, and a circular arrow sits in the top-right. Small figures matching the current character stand in clusters spread across the lane's width, brown gorillas stomp on the orange strips flanking the lane, and smoking volcano-like cones sit at the lane edges, with a row of red humanoid figures standing across the lane further ahead and a dark gorilla behind them. The player appears as a doll-sized ballerina on the lane at one point and as a shark taking up much of the road later, both under the same "Level 1" header.
How to play Monster Dash
- Start on the "Pick Your Starter" screen. A three-by-three grid holds nine characters; one row of three is framed in yellow, and those same three appear in the tray directly below the grid.
- Two green buttons sit under the panel: "Replace", marked with a video icon, and "Start Game". Press "Start Game" to begin the run.
- Run the lane through the waterfront city. Small figures matching your current character are laid out in clusters across the lane's full width rather than in a single file.
- Watch the top of the screen for the run's progress - a "Level 1" header over a bar reading 0/10 - and the lightning-bolt counter in the top-left corner.
- Expect brown gorillas stomping on the orange strips either side of the lane, smoking volcano-like cones at the lane edges, and a row of red figures standing across the lane further ahead with a dark gorilla behind them.
- A circular arrow sits in the top-right corner during play, in the usual position and shape for a restart control.
Controls
- Desktop: The game shows no keyboard prompts or key bindings anywhere, so none are listed here. On the opening screen you use the buttons the game shows you: "Replace" and "Start Game". During the run itself there is no control overlay at all - no joystick, no on-screen buttons - so we cannot tell you how the character is steered mid-run.
- Mobile / tablet: Played with the on-screen controls the game shows you: tap "Replace" or "Start Game" on the "Pick Your Starter" screen. A circular arrow sits in the top-right corner during play. There is no joystick and no on-screen buttons during the run itself, so we cannot tell you how the character is steered mid-run.
Monster Dash tips & strategy
- Check the tray under the grid before you press "Start Game" - it repeats the three characters from the row framed in yellow.
- "Replace" carries a video icon rather than a plain label, so read that screen before you tap it.
- The bar under the "Level 1" header is the run's progress readout - 0/10 means none of the ten done yet.
- The small figures matching your character sit in separate clusters spread across the lane's full width, not in one line, so watch both sides of the lane as you approach them.
- Gorillas turn up in two places - stomping on the orange strips flanking the lane, and standing on the road itself - so look past them to the row of red figures further up.
- Scale changes a lot: the character can be doll-sized on the lane at one moment and wide enough to take up much of the road at another.
What makes Monster Dash fun
A "Pick Your Starter" screen with a 3x3 grid of nine 3D characters - a frog-headed figure, a watermelon creature, a flying saucer with bare feet, a banana peel, a ballerina doll, a finned shark, a monkey, a brown gorilla and a black gorilla - with one row framed in yellow and a three-slot tray repeating that row. A green "Replace" button marked with a video icon alongside a green "Start Game" button. A low-poly waterfront city setting with skyscrapers, water, orange strips flanking the lane and smoking volcano-like cones at the lane edges. Clusters of small figures matching the current character spread across the lane's width. Gorillas on and beside the lane, and a row of red humanoid figures standing across it. A "Level 1" header over a 0/10 progress bar, a lightning-bolt counter in the HUD, a gem counter on the menu screen, and a circular arrow in the top-right corner during play. The player character appears in different forms and at very different sizes during a run, plus an "Amazing" praise banner and a circular impact burst. Playable free in the browser on JoyForGame, which hosts the game but did not make it.
Monster Dash gameplay video
In this clip: This clip opens on a 'Pick Your Starter' screen where the highlighted row shows a banana, a ballerina and a shark on sneakers. On the Level 1 track, a ballerina runs down a pale blue lane past large gorillas and smoking volcano props, with a 0/10 progress bar at the top. Later frames show a big blue shark facing a black gorilla in front of city buildings, then the word 'Amazing' beside a tall red meter.
Monster Dash FAQ
Is Monster Dash free to play?
Yes. We host it free in the browser on JoyForGame - there is nothing to buy or install, and you can start a run straight from the page.
What do you choose at the start?
The opening screen is headed "Pick Your Starter" and shows a three-by-three grid of characters: a frog-headed figure, a watermelon creature, a saucer with bare feet, a banana peel, a ballerina doll, a finned shark, a monkey, a brown gorilla and a black gorilla. One row of three is framed in yellow and those same three are repeated in a tray below the grid, with "Replace" and "Start Game" buttons underneath.
Does the player character change form?
Yes. The player appears as a small ballerina figure on the lane at one point and as a large shark on the road later, both under a "Level 1" header, so both the form and the size of the character change during play. We have not pinned down what triggers the change.
Is there a level or a goal to reach?
The top of the screen shows "Level 1" above a progress bar reading 0/10, so runs are built around a numbered goal. A lightning-bolt counter sits in the top-left corner throughout a run; ours read 24.
Is there a restart button during play?
A circular arrow button sits in the top-right corner of the screen during play, in the usual position and shape for a restart control. We have not confirmed what it does.
