About Solitaire

Solitaire here means Klondike, the single-player card game most people picture when they hear the word. Played with a standard 52-card deck, the goal is to sort every card onto four foundation piles by suit, ascending from Ace to King. Seven tableau columns are dealt with only the top card face-up; players uncover hidden cards by clearing them onto foundations or restacking them in alternating colors, descending in rank. A stock pile supplies extra cards to draw when the tableau stalls, and an emptied column can only be refilled with a King. This H5 build reproduces that classic ruleset entirely in the browser — no install, no plugin — with drag-and-drop card movement so the round-by-round mix of luck and logic that has entertained players since the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush era runs instantly from a link.

How to play Solitaire

  1. Seven tableau columns are dealt from a shuffled 52-card deck; only the top card of each column starts face-up.
  2. Build tableau sequences downward in alternating colors (e.g., a red 8 on a black 9); flip a column's face-down cards as they're exposed.
  3. Move a face-up card, or a valid ordered run, onto another tableau pile or a foundation if it legally fits.
  4. Draw from the stock pile whenever no tableau move is available to bring fresh cards into the waste pile.
  5. Send cards to the four foundation piles in ascending order by suit, starting from the Ace and ending at the King.
  6. Win by clearing all 52 cards onto the four foundations; an emptied tableau column may only be refilled with a King.

Controls

  • Desktop: Click and drag a face-up card (or a valid stacked sequence) to move it onto another tableau column or a foundation pile; double-click a card to auto-send it to an eligible foundation; click the stock pile in the corner to draw new cards into the waste pile.
  • Mobile / tablet: Tap and drag cards with a finger to move them between tableau columns and foundations; tap a card to auto-play it to a foundation when a move is available; tap the stock pile to draw new cards.

Solitaire tips & strategy

  • Prioritize uncovering face-down cards in your longest tableau columns first — they hide the most future options.
  • Don't rush every eligible card to the foundations immediately; keeping a low card in the tableau can help you unstack a longer run later.
  • Only fill an emptied column with a King you actually want anchoring that space, since it's the sole card type allowed there.
  • Cycle fully through the stock pile before locking in a risky tableau move, since a hidden stock card may open a cleaner line.
  • Look for moves that flip a new face-down card over moves that don't — information is usually worth more than tidiness.

What makes Solitaire fun

Standard 52-card Klondike ruleset (7-column tableau, 4 suited foundations, stock/waste pile); mouse or touch drag-and-drop card movement with double-click/tap auto-play to foundations; runs entirely client-side in the browser with no download, install, or account; untimed, replayable single-round format with a fresh random deal each time.

Solitaire FAQ

Is this the same game as classic Windows Solitaire?

It uses the same Klondike ruleset that shipped with Windows starting in 1990, but this is an independent browser build, not a Microsoft product — Klondike itself is a public-domain card game with no single owner.

Do I need to download or install anything to play?

No. It runs directly in the browser on desktop or mobile with no install, plugin, or account required.

Is there a timer or lives system?

Standard Klondike is untimed with no lives — you can take as long as you want and restart the deal at any point if you get stuck.

Does it use draw-one or draw-three from the stock pile?

Klondike is traditionally played either way; check this build's in-game settings or menu to see which draw mode is active, since it changes the difficulty.

Is every deal winnable?

No. Because the initial shuffle is random, a meaningful share of Klondike deals are mathematically unsolvable no matter how the cards are played.

Who owns the rights to Solitaire?

No one — Klondike Solitaire is a centuries-old public-domain card game. This browser version is one of many independent HTML5 implementations of the same classic rules, not a licensed or exclusive product.
