Drift Games — Free Online Car Drifting Games in Your Browser

Drift games are racing games where the point is not finishing first — it is how sideways you can go and how long you can hold it. Instead of hitting the perfect racing line, you deliberately break traction, let the rear of the car step out, and then catch the slide with steering and throttle. The longer and tighter the slide, the more drift points you bank. Browser drift games are having a good year: free-to-play drift titles keep turning up at the top of 2026 browser-game roundups, and most of them run in a tab with nothing to install. Below are the drift games you can play free right now on JoyForGame — tap-and-hold arcade drifters, 3D tuning garages, Tokyo-style street courses and one top-down 2D drift track.

Games in this genre

Famous games that defined the genre

Drift Hunters — The best-known free browser drift game: a garage of tuneable cars and open drift maps where you bank points for long slides and spend them on upgrades. It is hosted on other portals rather than here, but the loop it made popular — drift, earn, tune, repeat — is the same one the Drifting Legends games run on. Play a similar tune-and-drift game: Bimmer Drifting Legends →

Drift Boss — The one-button drift game that reduced the genre to a single idea: a car drives along a zig-zag road and one tap flips which way it turns, so you drift corner after corner until you miss one. We do not host it; the tap-and-hold drifters below are the same instinct with a steering wheel attached. Play a similar one-input drifter: Drift Bus →

CarX Drift Racing — The drift series from CarX Technologies, built around a physics engine that models tyre grip in detail — the serious end of drifting, on mobile and as a paid PC release rather than a free browser game. Play a browser drift challenge: Extreme Drift Racing →

Need for Speed: Underground — EA's 2003 street-racing game, the one that put drift events and import-tuner culture in front of a mainstream audience and made night-time neon city streets the look of the genre. Play a street-drift game here: Japan Racing Tokyo Drift 2025 →

Forza Horizon — Playground Games' open-world racing series for Xbox and PC, where drift zones and tuning setups sit alongside the racing — a console-scale version of the free-roam drifting idea. Play open-world drifting free: Drift Race in the Open World →

What is a drift game?

A drift game scores you on controlled oversteer. You enter a corner fast enough to lose rear grip, then hold the car in a slide by countersteering and feathering the throttle — close enough to the barrier to be worth points, far enough not to hit it. Most drift games award points per degree of angle and per second of slide, with a multiplier that builds while you stay sideways and resets the moment you straighten up or crash. That scoring loop is why drift games feel different from normal racers: a clean, slow-ish lap can score far worse than a messy, spectacular one.

Drift game controls: how to actually hold a slide

On a keyboard it is usually arrow keys or WASD to steer and accelerate, with space or the down arrow as a handbrake to break traction on entry. The move that beats every other tip: start the turn, tap the brake or handbrake to kick the back out, then immediately steer the opposite way to the corner — if the car is sliding left, steer right. Hold the throttle lightly to keep the slide alive rather than flooring it, which spins you. On phones, the tap-and-hold drifters make this much simpler: holding the screen steers into the drift and releasing straightens the car, so one finger covers the whole game.

Pick by where you are playing

Not every drift game is built for the same screen, so it is worth matching the game to your device. Pocket Drift, Russian Car Drift 3D, Drifting Mania, Drift Bus, GT Drift Most Wanted and OIIA OIIA CAT Drift Master are built portrait, which means one-handed phone play with tap-and-hold controls. Drift Race in the Open World, Extreme Drift Racing, Bimmer Drifting Legends, Vaz Drifting Legends, Japan Racing Tokyo Drift 2025, Get Drifty and Train Drift are landscape games that want a desktop keyboard or a phone turned sideways. Drift Cops 3D adapts to either. If you want a tuning garage and car progression rather than a quick score run, start with the Drifting Legends pair or Drift Race in the Open World.

Drift Games — Free Online Car Drifting Games in Your Browser — FAQ

What are drift games?

Drift games are racing games scored on controlled sliding rather than lap times. You deliberately break the rear tyres loose into a corner and hold the car sideways with countersteer and throttle, earning points for the angle and duration of each slide.

Are these drift games free to play?

Yes. Every drift game on this page runs free in your browser with no download, install or account — click one and it loads in the tab.

How do you drift in a browser game?

Steer with the arrow keys or WASD, then tap the handbrake (usually space or the down arrow) as you enter the corner to break traction. Immediately steer away from the turn to catch the slide, and hold light throttle instead of flooring it. On phones, the portrait games here use tap-and-hold instead: hold to drift, release to straighten.

Can I play drift games on my phone?

Yes. Pocket Drift, Russian Car Drift 3D, Drifting Mania, Drift Bus, GT Drift Most Wanted and OIIA OIIA CAT Drift Master are built portrait for one-handed phone play, and Drift Cops 3D works either way. The landscape games play better with a keyboard or a sideways phone.

Do you host Drift Hunters or Drift Boss?

No — those are hosted on other sites. We list them here because they define what people mean by a drift game, and each one links to the closest game we do host, so you can play something similar straight away.

Which drift game should I start with?

Drift Race in the Open World if you want a full game with car customisation and a map to roam, Pocket Drift if you are on a phone and want to start in one tap, and Extreme Drift Racing if you want the cornering skill test without any extras.
